Harbour MSP has announced the development of a new tier three data centre in Melbourne to meet the demand from its current customers, and bridge the gap in commercial data centre offerings in Victoria.
Situated in the Port Melbourne area, Harbour MSP will be the exclusive tenant within the new state-of-the-art facility. The new location will not only allow Harbour MSP to provide better geographic coverage in addition to its Sydney and Singapore data centres; it will also offer a full suite of services including co-location, 24/7 infrastructure monitoring, management, security, networking, private cloud deployment and disaster recovery.

Harbour MSP has been appointed to the Federal Government's data centre panel from which government agencies will be able to source data centre facilities and services.
There are only four other data centre suppliers who are part of this important national panel borne out of the Gershon review into ICT procurement policies, which recommended that the government consolidate all data centre facilities into a centralised strategy. According to the Gershon review, the absence of a whole-of-government approach to data centres could cost up to $1 billion over 15 years.

An equipment fault at TransGrid's Bayswater Substation in the Hunter Valley at 10:50 am on Thursday 2nd July, knocked out power in the city including several data centres including the Equinix facility in Mascot, and the HP data centre at Newington. Electricity was affected in several cities and states, according to state-owned energy wholesaler TransGrid.
Harbour MSP data centre, located at Global Switch, confirmed it was also affected by the outage; however, backup generators kicked in and spared any disruption to customers.
"A joint effort from staff in NSW transmission and distribution organisations ensured that power supplies were progressively restored within an hour of the incident occurring," TransGrid's general manager of Network Performance and Operations, Lionel Smyth said in a statement.
"Harbour MSP's customers at our Ultimo data centre have been totally unaffected by this electricity outage", says Andrew Hardy, Commercial Director of HMSP.
